Working with a classic midcentury aesthetic, I subvert traditional american stereotypes of race, gender, and identity.

My paintings start with a collage made with sourced imagery from 1950s-1960s magazines. These era-specific media contain outdated and often stereotypical ideals, such as exaggerated feminine and masculine societal standards. Working with collage allows me to arrange the images in a modern context, which allows me to achieve my goal for the viewer to compare past and present societal expectations.
